Sheena Wellington has travelled far and wide, singing traditional and other Scottish songs as well as her own compositions. Her relaxed singing style and entertaining presentation has endeared her to audiences in many countries, including the US where she has recently toured.

Sheena’s reputation as a traditional singer is such that she was invited to sing the Robert Burns’ classic (and one-time contender for the Scottish national anthem) 'A Man’s A Man (For A' That)' at the opening of the new Scottish Parliament in 1999, before the assembled Scottish Members of Parliament and VIP guests including Her Majesty The Queen.

Sheena’s stunning performance was recorded and subsequently televised worldwide and has now been made available for this album. The MSPs and guests lend a hand in the final stages of the song to produce an emotionally charged moment. All royalties from this track go to the Children’s Hospice Association of Scotland (CHAS).

Hamely Fare is a collection of mainly traditional songs, with a generous sprinkling of the works of Robert Burns and a couple of more recent compositions, including Karine Polwart’s chilling Whaur Dae Ye Lie. Ewen Sutherland, who accompanies Sheena on guitar, has set an Irish tune to Ballad, one of William Soutar’s poems, sung by Sheena. Pete Clark (fiddle) and Neil Paterson (whistle) are the two other key musical contributors on the album.

Sheena has recorded several previous albums, both solo (for Greentrax Recordings and Dunkeld Records) and as part of the very successful Scots Women, who were recorded live at their Celtic Connections concert in 2001. She has presented a very popular programme on Taysound Radio and is regularly invited to speak on BBC Radio Scotland.
