(August 2002) 14 tracks: Billy Taylor; The Lang Road Doon; Thaney; Leaving Rum; The Roving Ploughboy; The Trawlin’ Trade; Three Ravens; Yorkston Athletic; I Dreamed Last Night of My True Love; The False Lover Won Back; Gone to The Bower; The Sound of a Tear Not Cried; Follow The Heron; Tail End of The Tour.

Winners of the Danny Award at Celtic Connections in 1999, Malinky’s debut album Last Leaves was runner-up in the Froots Album of the Year Poll of 2000.

The voices of Karine Polwart and Steve Byrne remain at the heart of the material, as do their sympathetic string accompaniments (both on bouzouki and guitar). Whistle and bohdrán player Mark Dunlop steps forward for the first time as a singer in his own right and Jon Bews adds his own swinging fiddle style and yet another singing voice.

The most exciting development sees the wonderful Irish box and whistle player Leo McCann join the group, renowned for his inventiveness and energy both as a soloist and accompanist. The new five-piece Malinky maintain an acoustic approach to traditional and original songs and tunes.

"One of the most memorable and refreshing debuts [Last Leaves] to have passed this way in a long time." (Froots)
