2014 is the 700th Anniversary of Bannockburn this compilation of songs, music and a poem marks this important event.

Fifteen tracks feature the Wars of Independence and the exploits of William Wallace and Robert The Bruce.

Wallace's famous victory at Stirling Brig and his overwhelming defeat at Falkirk are the subjects of two songs and The Battle of Bannockburn features in several.

Of the eighteen tracks on the album, sixteen relate to the relevant historical period plus two 'bonus' tracks.

A portion of the Declaration Of Arbroath provides a fitting title for the album 'For Freedom Alone'.

The album features many of Scotland's finest artists and includes readings by BBC Radio Scotland's Iain Anderson.

Ian McCalman contributed immensely to the album with ideas, production and musical work and helped Greentrax with the final track selection.

2014 is also the year of The Scottish Referendum and the album recognises this historical event with the inclusion of bonus tracks 'Referendum' (Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Hass) and 'Both Sides Of The Tweed' (Dick Gaughan classic). The latter included by Greentrax to redress any perceived imbalance - with the lines "Let friendship and honour unites, and flourish on both sides the Tweed."

This album is the 5th Greentrax album on the subject of wars and battles.

Informative historical sleeve notes are by Jim Paris and the artwork design is by John Slavin.

The inclusion of the reproduction of the painting of 'The Black Douglas' included by kind permission of Ronnie Browne and The Duke of Hamilton. Ronnie’s painting hangs in Lennoxlove House.
