Fridarey - Across The Waters

A rather unusual but beautifully balanced CD from a group firmly rooted in Frideray, the old Norse name for Fair Isle.

Anne Sinclair sings with her brothers Neil and Stewart Thomson, joined by her grown-up daughter Lise and Neil’s daughter Eileen. Neil also plays guitar, Stewart accordion and Lise piano, but most of the singing is a capella.

Many of the pieces have strong island connections, some in dialect and one in old Norn, counterpointed by the girls’ version of the jazzy blues Cotton Mill Girls.
