Irish American fiddle master Liz Carroll and Irish guitar powerhouse John Doyle are among the most respected traditional musicians in Irish music today, and the fact that their second recording together is nothing short of brilliant is no surprise.

Double Play is one of those rare duo albums that holds a listener in rapt attention from start to finish, destined to become a must-have for all fans of traditional Irish music.

The two have honed their repertoire on the road, and on this studio release they captured both the electricity and lyrical nuances of their live show.

One of the most notable contemporary composers in traditional Irish music, Liz's tunes have been covered by everyone of note in traditional music including Sharon Shannon, Lunasa, Grada, and Darol Anger. She was a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship for her contributions to traditional music, and is well known in the US and abroad through the release of three critically acclaimed solo albums and multiple collaborations.

The most powerful rhythm guitarist to emerge in Irish music, John Doyle has played a leading role in the contemporary renaissance of Irish traditional music. His technical ability and harmonic sensibility have made him a sought-after producer and session musician. Since co-founding Solas in the early 1990s, he has gone on to tour with Eileen Ivers, Tim O'Brien, Karan Casey, Cathy Ryan, and Alison Brown, and has produced albums by Sean Doyle, Billy McComiskey, and Heidi Talbot.

"A heartfelt, joyful, imaginative reclaiming of Irish traditional music's primal spark." (Irish Echo)
