Description

(May 2012) 8 tracks: Sunrise * The World's Gone Over Me Now * A Good Winter * Contours Of Cairngorm * Mrs Anderson's Of Kincraig * Tullochgrue * Craig Ellachie * Cairngorm Dance.

This CD brings together four of Scotland’s most celebrated traditional musicians, using a classical approach to traditional Scottish music.

Inspired by Mhairi Hall Trio's debut "Cairngorm", the music has been developed and orchestrated by Mhairi and Patsy, for the acclaimed string ensemble, Edinburgh Quartet.

All of the music on Cairngorm is from the area of Badenoch and Strathspey which now encompasses a large part of the Cairngorms National Park taking in, naturally, the mountain Cairngorm (An Càrn Gorm).

Mhairi has gathered traditional melodies over the last ten years from many sources, some tunes being hundreds of years old, largely being lost in the oral traditional, but having been preserved through Scottish collectors such as Captain Simon Fraser and Angus Cumming from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Mhairi Hall (piano), Patsy Reid (fiddle, viola), Michael Bryan (acoustic guitar), Fraser Stone (drum kit).
