Scottish singers Joe Gordon, George Hill, Callum Sinclair and Dick Campbell were The Joe Gordon Folk Four, formed in 1957.

They were very popular and in great demand with their fresh and lively versions of Scottish folk songs, which delighted audiences at the time.

Their repertoire consisted of songs from across the Scottish folk tradition. A blend of lesser-known and well-known material brought a rich variety to their performances.

The songs on this compilation are taken from two EPs recorded in 1959 and 1960, and from a live recording before an audience at The St Andrews Hall in Glasgow in 1960.
