The publication of this book marks a milestone in pipe music. John McLellan, DCM of Dunoon, is arguably the greatest of all composers in the pipe music idiom - he is certainly amongst the top three with the other great men being George S McLennan and Donald MacLeod.

Some of the tunes in this collection have never been published before while others are in books long out of print or hard to find.

The tunes in this book represent the many facets of Jock McLellan’s career; his love of the birthplace of his parents, Jura and Islay, his days in the Highland Light Infantry and in particular the Boer War where he won the Distinguished Conduct Medal while playing under heavy fire to rally the men of his battalion during the suicidal night march on Magersfontein.

The DCM is second only to the Victoria Cross for valour, such was the heroism displayed by the piper from Dunoon.
His later spell in the 8th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, and another theatre of war, brought a new raft of tunes, and then, of course, is his love of Argyllshire and in particular, Cowal.
