Kenneth McKellar was born in Paisley in 1927. After starting by studying forestry, he switched to music at the Royal College Of Music, London. He performed mainly opera, and toured with the Carl Rosa company.

He was entered as the UK representative for the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest - not a great success, but he bounced back with several chart hits. His Scottish songs have found great favour north of the border and in ex-pat regions, and are still in great demand.
