The young star of the Shetland group Swingin’ Fiddles with an 'old pro' guitarist Brian Nicholson. The duo play traditional Scottish tunes, as well as Scandinavian, ragtime, classical and jazz.

Sixteen year-old Maggie Adamson and her musical partner Brian Nicholson are a shining example of how powerful the ingredients of differing age, talent and enthusiasm can be when brought together. Those qualities are demonstrated to great effect on this second release from the Shetland duo.

Their first album Tammy Norie was a great success, a runner-up in the BAFFI Awards. Maggie is already a winner of many music competitions including Shetland Young Fiddler Of The Year 2008 and Shetland Young Musician Of The Year. Brian Nicholson is one of Shetland's foremost and respected guitarists, best known for his work with the folk group Hom Bru.

After winning a Danny Award at Celtic Connections, Maggie and Brian went on to enjoy a busy year playing at various festivals from Gosport to Fareham and Stonehaven to Orkney, as well as taking part at the Shetland Folk Festival and Up Helly Aa in Lerwick.

Maggie performs a sensitive and soulful interpretation of the Ashokan Farewell, which has become an evergreen standard in recent times. This beautiful tune was composed in 1982 by the American musician Jay Ungar at the end of a fiddle camp held annually at Ashokan in the Catskill Mountains. It subsequently went on to be used as the theme tune for the very successful Civil War TV series. Jay Ungar is sometimes known to introduce the tune as a Scottish lament written by a Jewish guy from the Bronx!

"An album of outstanding beauty with virtuoso musicianship from the very first note to the very last. To produce yet another defining album in less than a year is a wonderful achievement for Maggie and Brian, and I for one wouldn't bet against this talented Shetland duo winning the Best CD Of The Year Award next time round at the BAFFI Awards ceremony."
