The Scottish Tradition Series consists of a selection of material previously held in the archives of Edinburgh University's School of Scottish Studies.

In response to many requests, The School of Scottish Studies Archives, in conjunction with Greentrax Recordings, have selected tracks for this compilation album from previous album releases in the Scottish Tradition Series and other material from the Schools’ rich archive collection.

Amongst the collectors represented here are Calum MacLean, Hamish Henderson, Morag MacLeod, Thorkild Knudsen and Peter Cooke.

The impact of the Scottish Tradition Series of recordings has been widespread and deep - they are used in teaching, research, broadcasting (radio, television and film) and have provided inspiration for singers, storytellers and instrumentalists both in Scotland and overseas.
