SCOTS TRAD MUSIC AWARDS 2006

The Scots Trad Music Awards, now in its 4th year, was this year celebrated at the Nevis Centre, Fort William, on Saturday 2nd December, 2006. The Nevis Centre proved to be an ideal setting and resulted in what many considered to be the best to date. Thanks are extended by Greentrax Recordings to Simon Thoumire and his energetic group of volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes to present what was a wonderful evening - entirely suited to television broadcast - TV directors please note!

Greentrax Recordings was again delighted to sponsor one of the awards.

Greentrax warmly congratulate all the winners and were especially delighted to see three Greentrax artists win their categories:
Kathleen MacInnes – Gaelic Singer Of The Year
Donnie Munro (Heart Of America - Across The Great Divide) – Album Of The Year
The McCalmans – Live Act Of The Year

The other Greentrax nominees - Catriona McKay, Steve Byrne, Eddie McGuire and Sandy Meldrum were unsuccessful on this occasion but are to be congratulated on their individual nominations.

Congratulations also to the new Hall Of Fame inductees:
Jeannie Robertson MBE - possibly the greatest ballad singer of all time and included on the Scottish Tradition Series of Greentrax recordings.
Kenna Campbell - a member of the group Bannal who recorded Waulking Songs for Greentrax in 1996.
Robbie Shepherd MBE - the hugely popular BBC Radio Scotland presenter.
Fergie MacDonald - who recorded The 21st Album for Greentrax in 1997.
Buddy MacMaster - from Cape Breton, whose album The Judique Flyer is on Greentrax.
Sir Jimmy Shand MBE - a very deserved addition to the Hall Of Fame.
Donald MacPherson - a wonderful representative from the piping community.
Aly Bain MBE - rightly being recognised for his promotion of Shetland music.
Jock Duncan - so richly deserved for his contribution to the oral tradition of the North-East.
