"Mairi MacInnes singing her and her husband's song Is Gaidheal Mi with the Glasgow Gaelic Choir blew up the small hairs detector circuit all together. Track of the year methinks..."
(Bob Walton, FRoots)

1999 saw the release of the long awaited Gaelic Women album, and Mairi, instrumental in the initiative and development of this project, sings two songs: Calum Sgaire, and one of her own compositions, Is Gaidhael Mi' (from This Feeling Inside) which she co-wrote with her husband Steve Evans. Thanks are due to Norman MacLean for translating the song in to Gaelic.

This album was over three years in the making - Mairi had originally approached Ian Green of Greentrax Recordings regarding the possibility of producing an all woman Gaelic album, something which hadn't been done before.

Featuring many of Scotland’s most celebrated Gaelic singers, the album demonstrates the richness and diversity of the tradition, focussing on women’s part in the creation of its poetry and song. Each singer has contributed a song of her particular choice. Extensive sleeve notes serve to provide fascinating insights into the background of both singers and song alike. Malcolm Jones of Runrig is the joint producer with William Jackson - both also play on the album.

Featuring vocalists Catherine-Ann MacPhee, Flora MacNeill, Maggie & Cairistiona MacInnes, Ishbel MacAskill, Karen Matheson, Kenna Campbell, Mary Ann & Wilma Kennedy, Mairi MacInnes with the Glasgow Gaelic Choir, Anna Murray, Anne Lorne Gillies, Margaret Stewart, Mairi Morrison, Mary Smith and Mackenzie.

With musicians including Fraser Fifield, William Jackson, Malcolm Jones, Allan MacDonald, James MacIntosh, Tony McManus, Peggy O'Keefe, Donald Shaw and Jim Sutherland.
