Welcome to the official music website of Mairi MacInnes - singer, composer and songwriter.
Mairi was born on 15th August 1964 in Baghasdail A'tuath, a small township on the beautiful island of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. She spoke Gaelic in the home and it was not until Mairi went to school that she learned English. She enjoyed singing from an early age in Gaelic and in 1982 became one of the youngest winners of the prestigious Gold Medal at the National Mod in Skye, achieved at her first attempt. The following year Mairi won the Pan Celtic Festival in Killarney, Ireland. Since then, Mairi has become a well established singer and is often heard on television and radio. In fact, no Gaelic music programme would be complete without Mairi MacInnes.
Mairi MacInnes is the singer of William Jackson's new song for Scotland, Land of Light, which won The Glasgow Herald's New Song for the Millennium competition. Land of Light was selected as a winner out of 249 entries from as far afield as the Faroe Islands, New Zealand and the USA, from New York to Texas. We hope this site will help to increase the awareness of Scottish music, but in particular Gaelic music around the world. You can buy Mairi's albums online at MusicScotland.
