A gem of an album presented in an eight panel digipack with stunning front cover illustration by Michael himself.

Includes extensive biographical and tune notes.

Sliabh Luachra (Mountain Of Rushes) is an area in south west Ireland which borders the counties of Cork, Kerry and West Limerick and is known for its polkas and slides.

Its finest exponents included Padraig O'Keefe, Denis Murphy, Julia Clifford and Johnny O'Leary.

Michael Sheehy has a direct link with this tradition through his father Mick Sheehy who was born in 1925 in Balliniska, Feohanagh in West Limerick.

He played button accordion and his love for Sliabh Luachra music was nurtured around Tournafulla, Templeglantine, Newcastle West and Brosna where his father came from.

The family moved to Manchester in the 1950s and Mick visited local Irish music pubs but most of the tunes being played were reels and his obscure repertoire of polkas and slides didn't fit in. He settled with playing at home and taught a young Michael his music.

Michael unusually decided to play piano accordion, but learning his father’s style he plays with more rhythmic punch than many button box players. He plays in a style which is firmly rooted in the traditions of Sliabh Luachra and he remembers his father telling him to 'Put a bit of life into it'. He certainly does that! He also has a repertoire which includes many tunes which are now unknown
in Ireland.

Veteran label 2016.
