10 Tracks: Settled In Clay * Sphere Music * Fused Dark * The Very Thing * Cold Iron * Quiet Voices * Heave And Roll * The Blue Fields Of Paradise * The Lock Keeper * One Common Bond.

Scottish Renaissance writer Neil Gunn's book "Off In A Boat" provided the inspiration for this stunning suite of music by multi instrumentalist and award winning Scottish composer Mike Vass.

Mike read Gunn's book whilst recovering from a serious illness and was so inspired that he made a promise to himself that when fit he too would sail round the West Coast taking the same route as Gunn.

This album released Oct 2014, pays homage to Neil Gunn's sailing travelogue.

A highly original and ambitious suite with Mike Vass at the helm as the master musician and composer, 10 tracks that feature samples of 'found sound' recorded on the trip (from flapping flags to a diesel inboard) and live instruments captured later in the studio.

Mike Vass (tenor guitar, fiddle, mandolin, dulcitone, melodica, percussion) with Iain Hutchison (piano), Jennifer Port (oboe, clarsach), Hamish Napier (flute, whistle), Euan Burton (electric and double bass), The Cairn String Quartet: Katie Rush (violin), Catherine Robertson (violin), Annemarie McGahon (viola), Susan Appelbe (cello).

"A perfectly balanced and atmospheric piece of considerable beauty...In The Wake Of Neil Gunn is truly inspirational - **** --Billy Rough, Songlines, January/February 2015

"is musical sea-voyage carries metaphorical weight, evoking the beauty and the fear that comes from navigating life's unpredictable surprises in a fragile vessel... If Philip Glass composed music in the Scottish folk tradition, it might sound like this"--Paul Matheson, fRoots, Issue 378.
