Description

(November 2013)

6 tracks: Theme from 'Hermione' * Adagio for Piano And String Orchestra * Before The Autumn Came (Movement 1) * Before The Autumn Came (Movement 2) * Flowerless The Grass * The Decline Of Dominant Harmony.

Four Orchestral Pieces is a body of work composed and arranged by Stephen Lee.

Influences reflected in it include the rich, dark imagery of the art of Douglas Gordon and of Caravaggio, the melancholic vision and 'eternal solitude' of the poetry of James Thomson and Charles Baudelaire, and the range and poignancy of the musicianship of Billy MacKenzie.

Tracks 2 and 3 - Before The Autumn Came (2 movements) - were directly inspired by a Billy Mackenzie vocal melody.

Stephen Lee (acoustic piano), Jason Sellars (trumpet, flugal horn). Orchestral pieces performed by LSV Ensemble.
