A second album from the talented, dynamic pipe-led Angus Nicolson Trio.

This album follows their successful debut album, Lassies that baffle us.

Sealladh Àrd was the home of a great friend of the members of the trio, the late Ivan MacDonald, and there is a tune dedicated to Ivan on the album. The lovely painting on the cover is by Ivan's sister.

Biography:

Angus Nicolson from Sleat in Skye. Both his grandfathers were pipers, one from Skye and one from South Uist. His father and uncle were pipers and his mother a Gaelic singer. He started playing at 10 and his teachers were Iain MacFadyen and later Iain Macdonald. He had a successful time in junior competitions, winning the under 18 section at Northern Meeting 2002 and also the under 18 Young Piper of the Year. As well as his teachers, Angus credits his father, Donnie, Angus MacColl, Gordon Duncan and John McSherry and many others as inspiring influences.

Andrew MacPherson comes from another musical family based in Portree. Andrew began playing drums in the Skye Pipe Band at the age of 9 and went on to study for a degree in traditional music at RSMDA in Glasgow. Well schooled in the various genres of traditional music, he also plays pipes and whistles. He credits as influences the John Ellis Cèilidh Band and legendary piper Donald MacLeod. He is a member of cèilidh band Deoch ’n Dorus and is a teacher who enjoys playing and learning. Although deeply rooted in tradition, Andrew is keen to experience new musical and performance styles.

Murdo Cameron is from Glenelg, the youngest of the band members an a remarkably accomplished player both on guitar and accordion. A chain of family members going back generations on his mother’s side were and still are Gaelic singers and Psalm Presenters. His elder brother, Iain, plays the accordion and Murdo started learning at the age of five, jealous of his big brother’s accordion lessons. He learnt privately from Ross MacPherson and Ally Mackenzie and continued at school with Blair Douglas. He lists his influences on ‘Box’ as Angus Lyon and Martin Green and on guitar Ewan Robertson, Mathue Watson and Kris Drever. Murdo is also a member of Dàimh and Fras.

Angus Nicolson (Highland pipes, Border pipes, whistle), Andrew MacPherson (percussion, whistle), Murdo Cameron (guitar, accordion).
