The Clutha was one of the great bands of the Scottish folk revival, all tracks on this album recorded live in 1981 in the USA.

Through their innovative arrangements of fiddles, concertina and pipes they shaped, to a great extent, the sound of Scottish folk music as we know it today.

Recorded in the USA in 1981, 'Live from Harvard' features the band showcasing the best of Scottish traditional music to a new audience.

As well as delivering superb music, 'Live from Harvard' also features three fantastic singers. Notably, the recording captures, for the first time, Gordeanna McCulloch performing live in her absolute prime. For many, Gordeanna was the finest ever singer of Scottish traditional songs and her performance here doesn't disappoint.

They chose the name "Clutha" for the group - an ancient name for the Clyde.

Ronnie Alexander (guitar, vocals), Callum Allan (fiddle), Tom Johnstone (pipes, small pipes), Gordeanna McCulloch * Erlend Voy (fiddle, concertina, vocals).

"The Clutha was first and foremost a live band, and the show features the warmth and humour it was renowned for. Musically, the fiddles are warm and resonant, the pipes exhilarating, and the voices on song. Live from Harvard is perhaps the finest album to feature Gordeanna McCulloch; her stellar voice still in the flush of youth, delivering effortless vocals, rich with the gravitas of the seasoned performer and laced with the gallusness of the Glasgow lassie." Iain Allan

"In recent times, The Clutha has mourned the loss of Ronnie Alexander and Gordeanna McCulloch; two wonderful performers, forever remembered through song. For current and future generations, these recordings will serve as the perfect introduction to the magic of the band, for others they will evoke memories of happy days. The Clutha, Live from Harvard - laugh, cry, dance and sing." Iain Allan.

"Live From Harvard turns the clock back to a time that some of us would regard as a golden age." Dai Jeffries, Folking.com
